Suitable Vehicles
Best option: extra-long trailer
An extra-long trailer (3.6m+ deck length) is the easiest and safest way to collect your umbrella. It sits fully within the trailer deck, so there’s no overhang, no flag needed, and the full weight is supported along its length rather than hanging off the back of a vehicle. If you have access to one, this is what we recommend.
Alternative: single cab ute
A single cab ute with an open tray can also work, but tray length varies a lot between vehicles, anywhere from about 1800mm up to 2700mm depending on the model and what tray was fitted. Most aftermarket trays sit around 2400-2485mm. Since your umbrella is 3360mm long, it will overhang the back of any single cab tray to some degree.
Before you drive out:
- Measure your tray, from the headboard (front) to the tailgate.
- Subtract that from 3360mm to work out your overhang. If it comes to more than 1.2m, you’ll need a warning flag (see Loading Guidelines below).
- Tailgate down, with the umbrella strapped through the tray’s tie-down points, not just resting on the tailgate.
Not suitable: dual cab utes, hatchbacks, sedans, small SUVs, or roof racks. If you’re not sure your vehicle will work, call us before you drive out.
Loading Guidelines
- Your vision as the driver must not be obstructed by the load.
- If you’re using a single cab ute and your overhang works out to more than 1.2m (see the tray measurement above), Queensland road rules require a warning device: a red, red/yellow, or yellow flag at least 450mm x 450mm fixed to the extreme back of the load during the day, or a red light visible from 200m (or two red reflectors) at night.
- Overhang must never cover your number plate, tail lights, or indicators.
- Please bring your own tie-down straps. We recommend at least two rated ratchet straps, plus a moving blanket or similar padding to protect the umbrella and your vehicle.
Load Restraint Is Your Responsibility
Our team is happy to help load the umbrella onto your vehicle at collection. Once it’s loaded, strapping and securing the load for transport is your responsibility.
A few tips:
- Strap through your tray’s tie-down rails or anchor points, not just over the tailgate.
- Use at least two straps, positioned to stop the umbrella sliding forward, backward, and sideways.
- Check your straps are tensioned properly before you leave our yard, and again after the first few minutes of driving.
Before You Arrive: Quick Checklist
- Vehicle is an extra-long trailer (preferred) or single cab ute with tray measured
- Two people available to help lift (65kg)
- At least two rated tie-down straps
- Padding or moving blanket
- Red flag on hand if your tray overhang works out to more than 1.2m

A Note on Refusal
If our team assesses that your vehicle isn’t suitable, or that the load can’t be restrained safely, we may need to decline loading until you have suitable transport arranged. This protects your umbrella, your vehicle, and other road users. We’re not responsible for final load restraint once you leave our yard.
If you have any questions about whether your vehicle will work, give us a call before you make the trip.
